Optimist Club of Stratford

Healthy Bodies – Healthy Learning

A major focus of the Optimist Club of Stratford for the 2026 Optimist year is to help address the unprecedented economic uncertainty being felt in our community. The cost of living has increased by over 4% annually in recent years, driven by inflation, rising life costs, and unstable incomes.

A family’s struggle with poverty can have significant negative impacts on a student’s physical, mental, and social well-being. Students are better able to learn when they are well-fed and comfortable.

Schools in the City of Stratford are seeing more students arriving at school:

  • Having had little or nothing to eat before the start of the school day
  • Wearing clothing that is unsuitable for weather conditions (no mitts, no hats, no rainwear, or inappropriate footwear)

Local school catchment areas include lower-income populations that require additional support from outside agencies. Some local schools have contacted families early in the year to confidentially encourage them to seek assistance when needed.

The Optimist Club of Stratford has recognized these needs within the education system and is making donations to Public and Catholic elementary schools (Grades K–8) in the City of Stratford. These donations are intended to be used primarily for:

  • Breakfast and snack programs
  • Grocery gift cards for families in need
  • Warm and dry clothing (coats, pants, mitts, hats, or footwear)

The Optimist Club of Stratford is part of a worldwide service organization dedicated to bringing out the best in children and youth, in their communities and in themselves. The Stratford Club is now in its 89th year of community service.

Equipment Collection

Baseball helps kids stay active, build confidence, and learn teamwork, discipline, and leadership. It also gives children a sense of belonging and community.

That’s why the Optimist Club of Stratford is collecting used baseball equipment for disadvantaged youth in Cuba. Your donation can help a child join a team and experience the joy of the game.

We welcome donations of bats, balls, gloves, helmets, spikes, uniforms, and more.

For donations, please call Dean at 519-273-4463.
